Blockstack has announced the Blockstack browser, which allows developers to access a new internet. This new internet is designed to change the dynamic and bring the power back to the users. Developers can build apps on this new internet by downloading the Blockstack Mac or Linux app , with Windows support coming soon, and by using existing browsers like Chrome or Safari or Firefox.
The new internet is powered by blockchain technology. Users will be able to access people, communities, apps, and services built on the blockchain from a browser. Designed to remove middlemen, it will avoid people having to disclose personal information and bring back more control to users.
The Blockstack team is a group of open-source developers who believe that the permission-based environment of the traditional internet runs directly counter to true innovation. They perceive that, outside large companies, it’s hard for to innovate, and want to level the playing field. The developer tools for the new, decentralized internet remove the reliance on existing infrastructure or third-party servers.
A new blockchain-based internet would be able to focus on security and safety. Applications and services cannot be owned and controlled by remote third-parties. The result would be a digital world of peer-to-peer internet utilities not maintained by corporations, but collectively, by the people using the system. It could also provide a digital world that encodes property rights, where users own their own data, and where the people have more control.
The Blockstack team intends to release further details on their mission to renovate the antiquated system of the internet in the coming days.
